Greek Community Celebrates Harry Agganis and Greek Heritage at Fenway Park
Boston – On Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 the Greek Community along with the Boston Red Sox will celebrate Greek Heritage at Fenway Park. The celebration will begin on Jersey Street before the home game against the Los Angeles Angels and will continue on the field before the 7:10PM game.
June 27th, 2018 marks the 63rd Anniversary that the great Harry Agganis tragically passed away. The Honorable Charlie Baker, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has proclaimed Wednesday, June 27th as “Harry Agganis Day” in Massachusetts.
The grandnephew of the late Harry Agganis, Mr. Greg Agganis, will be presented with a plaque that will be permanently displayed at Fenway Park and will be followed by a video tribute to the baseball and football star.
The Honorable Haris Lalacos, Ambassador of Greece to the United States
along with Greg Agganis will each throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
Soloist, Aggeliki Psonis and the Youth Choir under the direction of Nektaria Sofou-Boustris of Saint Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church of Braintree, Massachusetts will perform the American National Anthem.
The Boston Red Sox will honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the Greek American Community of New England.
The Honorees include;
George Behrakis, Philanthropist - Caterina Sakellaris, Community Leader,
Maria Stephanos, WCVB Channel 5 Co-Anchor - Dr. George Theodore, Orthopedic Surgeon (Massachusetts General Hospital) and Boston Red Sox Staff Physician.
Greek Dance performances presented to us by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston Dance Group, Pan-Cretan Association of America and the Dancing Zorbas will take place on Jersey Street and at the VIP reception.
Mr. Jim Demopoulos of Arlington, MA an avid Red Sox Fan will be recognized as the “Season Ticket Holder of the Game”. Mr. Demopoulos is a proud season ticket holder for the past 50 years.
Members of the Lynn ROTC along with the Boston Evzones will act as the Honor Guard during the ceremony.
The presenting sponsor of the festivities is the Alpha Omega Council.

General Admission Tickets $90 - $120/ea.
All ticket buyers will receive a baseball cap with the Red Sox Logo and “Red Sox” written in Greek on the front and Agganis 33 written on the back of the cap.
